Ten Tens (UK)
Breakin’ Convention’s 10Tens is a collective of 10 ten year olds celebrating a decade of Breakin’ Convention at this year’s festival and the future of hip hop dance.
Choreographed by Vicky “Skytilz” Mantey and Bruno “Boom” Perrier of Olivier Award-winning Boy Blue Entertainment, and also choreographers on the forthcoming All Stars 3D movie, the 10 Tens will perform in front of an audience of 1,800 during the opening night of this year’s Breakin’ Convention.
The 10Tens collective is made up of individuals aged 10 (or on the cusp of turning 10) from all over the UK who applied following an open call out last November, scouted dancers and past performers also approached by Breakin’ Convention.
Over 40 people applied for the project with additional auditions held in Wales to be part of the project.
Notable members Malachi Welch who was the youngest performer ever at Breakin’ Convention performing with Interlude Dance Troupe in 2006 aged just three years old.
Brody McCann from Belfast took part in Five Years of Flava stage celebrations in 2008, and a year after performing with Rapture in 2007 aged only four.
Dancers aged ten applied from afar afield as Glasgow and Belfast, with Southampton, Nottingham, Belfast, Glasgow and Essex other notable hot spots of young dance talent.
Another dancer, Sarina, was scouted from hip hop dance battle event Juste Debout, and trained with national champion popper Dickson Mbi who recently toured with Russell Maliphant Company and starred in Lucozade’s national “Revive” advertising campaign.
