Breakin’ Convention & Lyrix Organix bring you Graffical, a two day fun workshop during the June half term.

Working with two rap mentors, you will share and discuss your favourite rap songs and research their lyrical meanings and their changes over time and what affects they have socially and personally.

Inspired by the research, the rap mentors will lead lyric writing workshops for you to write your own bars that would inspire and motivate your families and communities. On the second day, you will be bringing your words to life by working closely with an artist to make big graffiti murals to display in your local area for the WORD 2017 Festival in June.

There are limited spaces for this, so make sure you apply early. You have to attend both days!

How do I apply?

If you're interested in applying for Graffical, please fill out this online form

Deadline: 22 May 2017

For the Breakin' Convention 2017 UK tour we will have the pleasure of presenting South Africa's Soweto Skeleton movers to 10 UK cities. Although a popular style locally, little is known about their unique style of pantsula dance outside the country.

In our Pro:File featurette BCTV explores Soweto Skeleton Movers from South Africa with the dancers from the crew, exclusively for Breakin' Convention.

Street dancing on the corners of their township, this collective of dancers dance a style known as 'Skeleton Pantsula, a style that derives from Soweto in the 1950s when commuters developed a style known as 'isparapara,' inspired by their jumping on and off of moving trains. This was mixed with tap dance and later became known as pantsula.

More than a dance, pantsula is a lifestyle. Influences can be seen in jazz, breaking, popping, house dance and bonebreaking.
